The Historical Preservation Group is a diverse group of individuals that came together with a common interest and passion for the preservation of our history.   With the financial help of Civil War Preservation Trust and several private individuals,  the Historical Preservation Group received their non-profit status June 2002.

Ed Bearss Visits First Battle Kinston Battlefield Park
Upon touring Harriet's Chapel, Starr's Battery and the Memorial
Sites on the Kinston Battlefield, Ed Bearss said, "Its remarkable

Ed Bearss, historian emeritus of the National Park Service, is the most well known battlefield
guide in America and leads military history tours year-around of the Civil War, American Revolution,
American West, and World War I and World War II in Europe. He is acclaimed as one of the stars
of Ken Burns's award-winning PBS series, The Civil War. In 1956, he helped locate and raise the
ironclad gunboat Cairo, one of the most significant artifacts of the Civil War. He is the author of
everal books including Hardluck Ironclad: The Sinking and the Salvage of the Cairo; and, with
James McPherson, Fields of Honor: Pivotal Battles of the Civil War.
