Biographies of Civil War Soldiers

Private Redding William Pope, CSA
 

Redding William Pope, Private - Co. E,  41st Regiment N.C.T. (3rd Regiment N.C. Calvary) Resided in Lenoir County and enlisted at age 26 10/7/1861 and joined for duty in Lenoir County 1/25/1862, for 12 months. mustered in as private and appointed Commissary Sgt, in 5/1862. Reduced to ranks Aug 1862-Sept 1863. Present or accounted for through 10/ 1864. Captured at Hookerton, NC 3/26/1865 and confined at Hart's Island, NY Harbor, until released after taking Oath of Allegiance June 18, 1865.
 
Additional info on R W Pope - born 1835 in Greene Co., Married Olivia Fields, Had 3 sons and 3 daughters live to adulthood, died 1912, buried in Maplewood in Kinston, descendants still in Lenoir Co, Craven Co, and Florida.
